Merry Christmas

December 22, 2010

Hi Everyone,

Hope you all made it home for Christmas without too many problems with the snow! I hope everyone has enjoyed Judo this term, have a great Christmas and we will see you all back on the mat in the new year when the martial arts room should be fully restored to normal after the flooding problems.

Next term has lots going on so here are some highlights:

* Andrew has sent off all the paperwork for beginners so you should be receiving your licenses and suits soon.
* We have more joint sessions with Solent and Winchester planned, including one we will host ourselves
* There are 2 competitions – the team tournament at Sheffield Uni in February which is always good fun, and the university championships (BUCS) which is also in Sheffield in March.

For those who want to be part of the teams for the competitions, make sure you come back in the New Year ready to work hard to get yourself ready. We will probably look at organising some trips to local clubs to provide some more intense training for you all!

Don’t forget that we start sessions at the beginning of term, the first session being Tuesday Jan 11th. While many of you will have exams its a good idea to take a break to relieve some stress so we hope to see you from the first week of term – but if you miss sessions because of exams and revision, or if you have not been as often as you would like this term, don’t worry about it just get on down and we will soon get you back in the swing of things!

See you all in the new year,

Gary

No judo tonight – Snow!

December 2, 2010

For the benefit of anyone not on campus:

The university has announced it will be closed for the rest of the day due to the snow, so there will be no judo tonight.

Please remember to drop me an email (judo @ soton.ac.uk) if you are able to come to the joint session on Sunday!

Training updates

December 1, 2010

Hi folks,

Finally some good news! Here is the latest outlook for judo sessions for the rest of this week and the rest of the term:

Thursday
We are in Squash court 2. Please be on time so we can get set up quickly and make best use of the booked time

Sunday
This Sunday is the next 3 way session with the Solent and Winchester clubs and is being hosted by Solent. The session starts at 1730 and is at the St Mary’s Sports Centre. Those of you that have been to the last couple of Sunday sessions there will know that they are very friendly down there and they are hoping to add a social drink to the end of the session as well.

It would be great to get a lot of us along after several people were away for the Winchester session. Let me know if you are here on Sunday and can come along and I will work out a transport plan (email to judo @ soton.ac.uk). Also let me know if you have a car and can help get people down there.

Next week
The Martial Arts room is open again from Monday so no excuses for not getting down to a session!

Hope to see lots of you at all of the above!!

Gary
