Changes to Sunday session for January 30

January 29, 2011

Hi folks, quite unbelievably after the money spent sorting out the Martial Arts Room last term there has been another flooding incident of some description (no rain last night!!) and the room is closed this weekend.

Rather than simply cancel our session, I will drive people down to the Solent Uni session. This starts slightly later so if we meet at the Students Union at 5pm we will have time to get down there.

If you want to come along please drop me a quick note so I know who to look out for (mail judo@soton.ac.uk).

For now you should assume that Tuesday and Thursday sessions will run as normal, we will let you know if the room won’t be open again in time.

Cheers,
Gary

Competitions

January 26, 2011

So, exams are almost over, and soon the new semester will start. This also means that its competition time. Its the beginning of a term, and theres a long easter holiday after it, so work loads are at a minimum. Which means no excuses for not going to every training session and getting in every fight you can. The end of this term sees BUCS the big university tournament, with both team and individual events. This is all paid for by the AU, so its a given that your all going to this 😀

Now. To make sure we do well at BUCS its traditional for us to venture to Sheffield for a competition with them, but this year we’ve got our eye on another fixture.

After a little discussion, we’ve decided to head off to Brunel for the London Senior University Open Championships. This got lots of good press last year, and is only a day event so doesn’t take the whole weekend away. Its on saturday the 12th of February, so not far away. Its point scoring for all you dan grades, and is in 3 grade banding to keep fights more interesting for the rest of us. Its £10 entry, which is done online and the deadline is the 5th of feb. Transport will be sorted by the club. http://www.onlineentries.co.uk/events/london/20110212.php

We also have the possibility of Sheffield if people are interested. I’m not going to push this because we’ve decided that its best to set our sights on two and get lots going to them, than try and fail for all 3. However, if enough people are keen, then i will happily sort out entry for us. Sheffield is on the 18th of feb and can be found here: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=110824552324444 Entries for this need to be in by the 7th of feb.

Finally BUCS is on the 18-20th of march, but i’ll let you know more about that nearer the time. Everyone needs an up-to-date BJA license for any competitions or gradings, so double check yours has been sorted. Also, if anyone is over 21 with 3 years driving experience and has never had points on their license then can you let me know as we need anther mini bus driver.

Sunday training

January 22, 2011

Hi folks,

I am here this weekend, so the Sunday session is on as normal. If we are short of people due to exams I will run us down to the Solent session as an alternative, so whatever happens we will get some training in.

Also, we are planning to enter a student competition in London on Sat Feb 12th; if you are interested in coming along, make sure you get along to a session and let us know. There are categories for a range of grade bands so it is suitable for all.

Cheers,
Gary

Beat Exam Stress!

January 18, 2011

Judo running as usual tonight, hope to see lots of you there.

Loads of good reasons to come along – Christmas excess to work off, competitions to prepare for, forgetting about exams for a couple of hours!

No sunday session this week

January 14, 2011

I am away this weekend so there will be no sunday training session.

The Solent University club has started their term too so a visit to their session is a good alternative. I know Matt and a couple of others are planning to go so why not use the mailing list or the Facebook page to coordinate travelling down. The session is at 5.30 pm at St Mary’s Leisure Centre.

Back to the mat!

January 10, 2011

Hope you all had a good christmas break. Time now to deal with all the excess – judo starts again tomorrow so get on down for a break from revision and stress!

Usual time and place!
